Operation

Q: How long does it take to analyze?
A: It depends on the size of the boards and number of nets. Potentially it can analyze a board that is 30 square millimeters and has 300 nets in approximately 30 seconds.

Q: How can EMI be checked without IBIS? Is this low accuracy?
A: Components for EMI suppression are already set up in EMI Stream. Default values provide highly practical analysis.

Q: Is it necessary to set up the component types and nets frequency?
A: Regarding the frequency, default values have been already set up. If naming rules for the component type are created, it is possible to automatically set the component type.Of course, it is also able to also input the component type manually and change default values.

Q: Is it possible to modify the threshold value?
A: Yes, it is possible to modify the threshold value.

Function

Q: After considering the parts placement with EMIStream, is it possible to transfer the information back to Layout-CAD?
A: Yes it is. Back annotation is available.

Q: What range of frequency is required to measure with resonance analysis?
A: Its frequency depends on SPICE (approximately up to 3GHz)

Q: Are there any limitations for the size of boards?
A: The sizes of boards are usually 2 square meters, but there are no limitations with number of layers, components and nets.

Q: Is EMI Stream able to analyze with Gerber data?
A: No, Gerber data does not contain net information; therefore, EMI Stream cannot perform the necessary checks functions.

Q: Can a customized function be complied?
A: Even though EMI Stream is not able to comply with each customized function, if we receive requests from a customer and they are determined to have usage in a general sense, the function will be added in the next version of software.

Q: What CAD I/F can be accepted?
A: Design file I/F, PADS I/F and Zuken CR I/F.

Q: Can the application report EMI issues are reported separately from Signal Integrity issues?
A: EMIStream has interface to HyperLynx. Therefore, EMI issues are reported by EMIStream and Signal Integrity issues are reported by HyperLynx, if the user has both tools.

Q: Can you list more specifically the Signal Integrity issues that are identified by the application?
A: This application can not identify SI issues.

Q: Does the system handle multiple power planes or does the system assume one power and one ground plane?
A: Yes it does. This system analyzes one pair of GND and Power per a time, even if there are multiple Powers. Therefore, when thereare multiple powers, the user has to analyze one by one.

Other

Q: By the time of utilization of EMIStream, what preparation needs to be done before hand?
A: The library and thresh hold values have already been set up. Therefore, if CAD data has been obtained beforehand, it can be utilized by the time of installed.

Q: How do floating licenses work with EMI Stream?
A: Only one division within the same building are authorized to use EMI Stream.

Q: Even in the case of 2 layers, is it possible to do the necessary checks?
A: EMI check can be used with only 2 layers. However, in case of 2 layers, generally resonance analysis cannot be used, as usually no Ground and Power plane exist.

Q: Is it possible to verify the check results without EMIStream?
A: Yes, it is possible to verify with EMI Stream viewer, which is optional software.

Q: Are SPICE or IBIS models required for components?
A: No, EMIStream do not required model of compoments for customers.

Q: What characteristics of the component are used?
A: EMIStream has some characteristics of component as default.

Q: If a new component is encountered what has be done to integrate its characteristics into the system?
A: Yes. Customer can use their characteristics.

Q: On a percentage basis, how many designs has EMIStream been applied to for chip design vs board design?
A: EMIStream is used only for board.

Q: How many license of EMIStream or its predecessor are being used worldwide?
A: Over 100 in Japan and couple in Asia area.

Q: Are SPICE or IBIS models required for components?
A: No, EMIStream do not required model of compoments for customers.
